Whitetail Sports is owned and operated by Nick Jones, a formally educated phys ed teacher and athletics enthusiast who prides himself in providing fun and enjoyable sports camps that are grounded in the Manitoba P.E curriculum, helping to develop and nurture a life-long love of being healthy and active while fostering a positive team environment.

Whitetail was founded in 2019 and the first series of summer camps ran in 2020, albeit on a smaller scale due to COVID-19 safety precautions and restrictions. COVID put a stop to 2021 camps, but in 2022, Whitetail Sports was back and hosted four weeks of camps with kids aged 4 to 16 taking part.

Nick, who came to Canada from England in 2008 with his parents and two siblings, has spent much of his life playing and coaching various sports, both at competitive and rec levels. From soccer and rugby to cricket and badminton (and yes, on occasion, even curling when his friend’s team needs a sub), Nick approaches Whitetail Sports with a wide breadth of experience to help kids understand that a love of the game, whatever that game may be, and developing teamwork and collaboration skills are ultimately more important than being a star player.

As a child, Nick was diagnosed with a rare form of lupus, an autoimmune disease that affects body tissues, that almost took his life. While lupus is a lifetime illness, Nick has been managing it effectively for more than two decades and uses his experiences as a child to inform the development of Whitetail’s camps, making sure they are always inclusive and adaptable so that literally any child can participate, no matter their situation.

On the personal side, Nick has been married to his wife, Erin, for almost four years, and they are expecting their first child in September of 2023, which will be a real shock for their two cats, Bernie and Fran.
